- The European Systems Safety Society (ESSS) was established in 1999
- The ESSS Constitution was adopted in 2000
- ESSS became registered as a Charity (No 1084937 in England and Wales) in 2001
- ESSS is run by an elected Executive Committee
- ESSS has been in active business since Jan 2002
- Running Training Courses on Risk Management in Japan, February 2002
- Seminar on Balancing Risk & Reward Beyond Current Horizons October 2002
- There are plans for more public seminars during the next year

Mission Statement |

The mission of the ESSS is:
- The development and promulgation of best practice in the systems safety discipline
- The active encouragement and support of education in this discipline
- The support and sponsorship of relevant research
"Systems Safety" means the systematic identification, assessment, control and reduction of risks associated with the installation and operation of engineered systems.
The "Engineered System" includes all hardware and software components, and all human interfaces.

Objectives |

The objectives of the ESSS are, through its membership and training, to:
- Improve and expand the setting risk-based of standards in industry and elsewhere
- Develop a wider appreciation and understanding of the key principles of Risk Assessment and Risk Management
- Increase awareness of Best Practice in Risk Management
- Provide a forum for the sharing of relevant Ideas and information

- The Trustees have a legal responsibility to ensure that the Charity is governed in accordance with the Charities Act
